This portfolio represents a small sample of the brands, designers, and projects I oversee in my current role as Director of a Centralized Design group for Hearst Television.
The Diagrid began as a shared news graphics package and evolved into all aspects of marketing and design. Print, digital, social and motion design are now included in the design system and support model. This package is used across the United States from Boston and Orlando to Kansas City and Sacramento.
Both the package and my role have evolved over the past 10 years. I was the first hire for a team created to build and launch the package across a large group of broadcast stations. 5 years later I took on a new role and built team and process for providing print, digital and motion design support for station creative directors. Two years ago I took on my newest role leading the entire design team and overseeing the package as Director of HTV Design in Orlando, FL.
I oversaw the creation of the branding guide and worked with a senior designer on the layout and design. The the rest of the samples below represent the designs the team creates for our clients as well as the collaborative process I've worked to evolve and oversee with the group.
The Local Vibe package was a group effort and collaboration between our design team and group of station creative directors. My role was to oversee the project and lead both teams. The overall goal was to bring a group of creatives together and create a shared package.
During this process I was able to apply research, group and local market objectives and allow the design team to do research and discovery before the design process started. During this process I would meet with the design team and creative directors as a group and one-on-one. The overall package and branding for our Kansas City station won a Promax Gold Award for overall packaging.
One of the most rewarding projects and brands I've worked on has been my own personal brand. I created my MH brand during the launch of this website. Creating a visual design system and identity to help differentiate myself has helped me remember the importance of executing a brand across all platforms. I recently created a sonic signature and animation using instruments I have at home. The number of ways I can express my personal brand keeps growing and makes this an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
For me, personal branding starts with an origin story and is another way to differentiate yourself. It also helps people understand how your past helps lead to your passion in the present. My origin story and work experience has helped me grow, adapt, and build a career in branding, design and project management.
